Windows Based Server:

Linux Based Server:

Linux is a hot data center server. It saves you money in licensing and maintenance costs. This lead to a cascading effect that impacted Linux in a variety of ways. Management and maintenance tools for running Linux servers were developed, making it easier, cheaper and more secure. The time spent doing things like installing patches dropped drastically and updates were pushed out more quickly, helping keep servers secure. Likewise, technicians that wanted to work in the hosting industry were forced to learn Linux. Certification systems were set up and hosts had an easy time finding highly-qualified employees to man their server rooms.

Finally, tools like CPanel were developed to hide the operating system from users. This meant that someone could be on a Linux server and never be any the wiser. In addition to keeping customers happy, this reduced the number of support queries and saved hosts a great deal on personnel.
